If there’s one thing I’ve learned during the ups and, especially, the downs in my life is that regardless of who is or isn’t still in your life, regardless of how much you would want, at times, for everything to stop, as long as you’re breathing there’s nothing else to do but go on. Sad and tragic events have marked our recent existence, and raised existential issues that can easily take anyone to the brink of profound darkness.

Yet, as much as I think that it’s too soon to write anything that doesn’t start with “in loving memory of,” there is really no other choice but to accept pain and death as part of life, as life is to short to spend it in sorrow.

Comic books writer Alan Moore said that “life isn’t divided into genres. It’s a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you’re lucky.” And that it is. So I’m tuning in to a more comforting channel in the form of a beloved childhood memory that most of us share: Mickey Mouse. Whatever floats your boat is what I always say. Now find something that gives you comfort/joy/pleasure/ a smile, and go do it.
