Snegurochka - The Snow Maiden

Caution: visual inspiration heavy post. Enjoy!

I hope everyone's weekend was as relaxing and fun as you would have wished it to be. As for mine, well, it was simply full of wonders and beauty for we went to the Russian Opera Costumes Exhibition at the National Museum of Art in Bucharest. And what a delight it was!

Flora and fauna embroidery, ruby velvet, turquoise wool, gold leather, sequins ans beads and pearls, silver rain drops, gold buttons, reds and blues, brightly colored geometric patterns, hand painted natural cotton, an incredibly bold pattern mix, fur trimmings, white silk ... is was all simply a feast for the eyes!

Still, as impressed as I was by the detailed craftsmanship and the beauty of the textiles, it was the Slavic folklore that stole my heart. More specifically, Snegurochka, a Russian opera written by composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, after a play by play by Nikolayevich Ostrovsky. This beautiful love story is centered around the Snow Maiden, the child of Bonny Spring and Grandfather Frost, who wanting to join mankind falls in love with the songs of a shepherd. Yet as love and warmth take over her frozen heart, so she finds her end, and floats to Heaven in a vapour. If you wish to do so, do read more about it here and here.

And as today is the 10th of January, I can't help but think of the passing of our own fashion maiden, Coco Chanel. She will forever be remembered.

I'm sorry you're really pretty and all but this outfit isn't very creative or unique.It's just pretty in a sort of look-at-me-everybody-i-am-rich. You just show people you have lots of money and can spend it on like practically anything your heart desires and yet you choose over hyped brands with tons of logos in sight (visible logos are so passe and they make you look like a snob/brand whore). There are literally TONS of amazing designers out there. Louis Vuitton and Chanel are really so yesterday. I mean just take a look at net-a-porter..there you have amazing newcomer Dion Lee with his fantastic prints and Australian label Lover with adorable dresses ...heck even wearing Alexander Wang basics is better than branding everything out.
but the make up is sweet I really like that one.
PLEASEE don't turn into Sea of Shoes you have way more potential than Jane with her crappy "curating" and show-off rich life

@ Anonymous (isn't it odd that you can address me by name and yet you did not leave me the same privilege?) Anyhow, let me start by thanking you for leaving such a detailed feedback.

Second, I should begin to address your points. Saying that a classic black dress with a statement leopard coat is not creative is like saying that Giovana Battaglia isn't creative, because I trust you know that this is one of her statement looks. Unique it may not be, yet I did not hope to achieve such high expectations as few things are still unique today.

Now I'm a bit confused as to your actual problem regarding this. Is it that I wear mainstream brands, or that I have the financial means of sustaining such a lifestyle? Because if it is the former, than YES I am a shoes whore and YES, in a lavish Russian-inspired post I am a brand whore as well. And if you want to talk Chanel, let me tell you that it is utterly disrespectful to say anything negative when today we commemorate exactly 40 years since her death. If it is the latter, than I suggest you take a look at previous posts and see outfits which include very affordable brands.

Regarding the other brands which you suggested, I regret to inform you that netaporter is as mainstream as it gets with prices targeting the extremely affluent consumer. If you would ever wish to indicate underground fashion labels I suggest you see the stock at la garconne and colette. As for Alexander Wang, as much as I love him to bits, I am unfortunately not his target (skinny models) audience.

And finally, if you have something to say about Jane of Sea of Shoes, or any other blogger, please feel free to contact them personally.

@everyone else: I know I am very behind on my replies and feedback, yet I am working at repairing that as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your love and understanding ♥

Love ur lip color too, mind to tell ur lipstick brand or code? :)

Anonymous: obviously you still didnt get the Christian Dior's quote on not money that makes you look classy, is how you pick your clothes, Money cant buy Taste. :) Even you have alot of money, you bought alot of branded clothes and you match them wrongly, still bad taste ok.

ioana i left u mess on fb as well but as i told u last night i love love this outfit. i actually just wore my leaopard coat today too. i think subconciously i was still insipred by the photo from last night so when i left home i just grabbed it and put it on. and good thing i did cause i went over to my friends house who i raved about u, and then we went out and took some photos of my outfit. unfortunly i took them with the point and shoot cause thats what i usually carry with me so the quality isnt that great. but i think i will post some. anyways just wanted to say today's outfit was insipired by u.
xoxo
mina

P.S. my friend roshy loved the jacket and is planning on doing a DIY with safety pins. she is a pretty creative individual so i'm dying to see the result. as to the dress i'm kinda thinking of getting it. i think seeing it on u makes me want it even more. the only thing thats stopping me is being your clone.

You arise beauteous in the horizon of the heavens
Oh living Aten who creates life.
When you shine forth in the Eastern horizon you fill every land with your beauty.
You are so beautiful: you are great; gleaming and high over every land.
Your rays embrace the lands and all you have created;
You are Re and reach out to all your creations, and hold them for your beloved Son.
You are afar, but your rays touch the earth;
Men see you, but know not your ways.

Thanks...sweet sugar!
